Terms of use.

By using Margin, you agree to a handful of basics. They're written plainly on purpose.

The deal

Margin is a reading tracker at readmargin.club — daily streaks, shareable finish cards, an ambient feed of what your friends are reading. Free forever. Pro is a paid tier that unlocks Virgil (our AI reading companion) and shelf customization. Nothing else is for sale.

Eligibility

You must be at least 13 years old to use Margin. If you're in a country with a higher digital-consent age (e.g. parts of the EU), you must meet that minimum instead. Margin isn't designed for children and we don't knowingly collect data from kids under 13.

Your account

One account per person. You're responsible for anything that happens under your handle — don't share your sign-in credentials. Impersonating another reader, author, or public figure is grounds for removal. You can close your account anytime from /account.

Your content

Reviews, notes, quotes, bios, and anything else you write on Margin stay yours. By posting on a public shelf you grant us a worldwide, royalty-free license to host, display, and format it on Margin and in standard social-media link previews. That's it — no sublicensing, no resale, and we do not use your content to train third-party AI models. Your content goes to our AI provider only when you actively use Virgil, and only to answer that request.

Acceptable use

Don't harass other readers. Don't post content that's illegal where we or you live, or that infringes someone else's copyright (quoting passages for review and discussion is fine — wholesale chapter dumps are not). Don't scrape the site, abuse the APIs, attempt to bypass rate limits, or use Margin to send spam. We reserve the right to suspend or remove accounts that break these rules and to remove individual posts that do.

Virgil & AI features

Virgil is an AI reading companion. Free accounts get a small weekly allowance; Pro accounts get an unlimited fair-use allowance. Virgil generates text on demand and can be wrong, biased, or oddly confident — verify anything that matters before you act on it. Don't use Virgil to generate harmful, unlawful, or sexually-exploitative content; we may revoke AI access for abuse without refund.

Pro & billing

Pro is a recurring subscription processed by a third-party payments provider. Your card is charged at the start of each billing period and renews automatically until you cancel. Cancel anytime from the billing portal on /account— your Pro features stay active until the end of the current period, and you drop back to Free with your data intact. Prices and features may change with notice; if a change materially reduces what you're paying for, we'll email you before it takes effect.

Refunds:we don't offer prorated refunds for partial periods. If something is genuinely broken on our end, email support@readmargin.cluband we'll make it right. EU/UK consumers retain their statutory withdrawal rights.

Book data

Book metadata (titles, authors, covers, ISBNs, descriptions) comes from third-party book-metadata services. We cache it for speed. Cover images are served from their original hosts. If you're a rights-holder and want a cover removed, email copyright@readmargin.club.

Copyright (DMCA)

If you believe content on Margin infringes your copyright, send a notice to copyright@readmargin.clubwith: a description of the work, the URL of the infringing content, your contact information, a statement of good-faith belief, and a statement under penalty of perjury that you're authorized to act. We respond to valid notices and may terminate repeat infringers.

Termination

You can delete your account anytime from /account or by emailing privacy@readmargin.club. We can suspend or terminate accounts that violate these terms, with or without notice depending on severity. On termination, your data is deleted as described in the privacy policy.

No warranty

Margin is provided “as is” and “as available” without warranties of any kind, express or implied — including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. We try hard to keep Margin up; we don't promise zero downtime, perfect accuracy, or that the service will meet your specific needs.

Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent allowed by law, Margin and its operators won't be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for lost profits, lost data, or lost streaks. Our total liability for any claim relating to Margin is capped at the greater of (a) the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim and (b) US $50. Your reading data is precious to you — keep an export if it's your life.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of [Jurisdiction], without regard to its conflict-of-laws rules. Any dispute that can't be resolved by writing us first goes to the courts of [Jurisdiction]. Nothing in this section limits any non-waivable consumer rights you have where you live.

Changes

We'll update these terms as the product evolves. Material changes get a heads-up via email at least 14 days before they take effect. Continuing to use Margin after a change means you accept the new terms; if you don't, close your account before the effective date.
